Sally Rosenfeld lost her battle with cancer on the morning of Saturday, November 21, 2009. Sally was a retired U.S. Air Force Sergeant and recently served as the Membership Chairperson for the Berea Historical
Society.
Obituary:
SALLY J. ROSENFELD, 62, passed away at her home in Berea on Nov. 21, 2009. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Barbara (nee Morgan), and her beloved sister, Mary Ann. She is surviv-ed by her siblings Donald M. Rosenfeld and Jane C. Rosenfeld and loving niece, Mary Louise Rosenfeld. She was life-long friends with Ruth Ann Martin and Candice Brown as well as close friends with Wichita residents Catherine Parsley, Ryan and Patty Hublick. After graduating from Berea High School in 1965 Sally moved to Florida before returning to attend classes at The Ohio State University. In 1976 she moved to Hayward, CA near San Francisco. She joined the Air Force Reserve and obtained her Bachelor of Arts in Accounting at California State University. After five years duty in the Reserve, she enlisted full time in the Air Force Air National Guard and spent the bulk of her 20 years on active duty at Ft. McConnell AFB in Wichita, KS. She purchased a home in Wichita and lived there until she retired as a Senior Master Sergeant with 25 years total military service on Dec. 31, 2003. In Wichita, Sally volunteer-ed for the Big Brothers Big Sisters organization, becoming a "Big Sister" to several girls in the Wichita area. Sally was very active in the "Angel Tree" network for the Salvation Army, providing underprivileged youth with bicycles at Christmas, and numerous items that they otherwise would not have access to. She was active with the Wichita Book Club, and the Wichita Bear Club where she aptly learned how to make teddy bears, many of which were donated to her various volunteer groups. Upon retirement, Sally returned to Berea, where she continued her volunteer and charitable work. She prepared free tax returns for AARP members, was co-chair for the WVIZ auction and tutored children at several schools throughout the Greater Cleveland Area. In addition, Sally was membership chair of the Berea Historical Society, an active member of the American Legion Post 91 and a member of the Unity Spiritual Center and Unity Church of the Crossroads. Sally was loving and fiercely loyal to her family, to her friends, to our soldiers and veterans and to her philosophical duty to give 20% of her earnings to charity and her church.
