After graduation I immediately went into the Air Force fulfilling a four year obligation of one weird ordeal after another, from Mississippi to Viet Nam to Maine. After Uncle Sam, I went to Woodstock, then California in a VW van to become a hippy and a bum but after a month decided poverty was not as much fun as it looked like on TV.
I returned to Cleveland and in 1970 married Beth Barhoover ( Midpark class of 68). We had two beautiful daughters (Amy and Shelly) and unfortunately we were divorced in 1993 and Beth died a few years later of cancer.
My professional career started with AT&T and evolved into becoming one of the first employees of MCI where I truly caught the entrepreneur bug. Since MCI, I have either managed or founded several technology companies and was featured in Fortune, Time, Wall Street Journal, etc. several times. Today, my lovely bride Cathy (of almost 11 years) and I live in Dallas and after retiring several times to utter boredom started a fun and rewarding business manufacturing and distributing healthy frozen non-carbonated beverages in 2003 called Swirl. Cathy and I have one adorable granddaughter (Ava) and when we’re not retired working at Swirl we love to play golf and travel to great places. |
