Wow, hearing about Kem's death hurts and makes me very sad at the seemingly increasingly rapid passing of time without contact with long lost friends. He was a partner in crime during many adventures during our Berea days. I have far too many excellent and vivid memories to pass all on here. But some are needed. I hope that some of you will remember these and also have some of your own.

Some good lunch time stoushes on the Fairwood playground saw us many times in Principal Seabrook's office. He once offered to put our names on chairs in the office to reserve a seat! The great six grade group in Mr Wicklife's class. Kem and Debbie Turney as leads in the six grade operetta. The joy and pride from Roehm's undefeated football team. The crushing collapse in our last year of football at BHS. Both injured all year, we had to help each other to put on and take off the shoulder pads since neither could left our arms above our heads.  Having to wake up my dad at 2:30 to get $50 to bail Kem after a late night painting "67" on numerous underpasses. "Make sure that you get the paint off your forehead before getting to the police station!" Many cold beers at Skips on Friday nights. And many others...

Great friend. How has almost 45 years gone by since we last talked?

Hi Tom....thanks for sharing your memories of Kem...I remember Kem fondly but did not have the depth of friendship you had....He was a great guy....and a tough football player....I see you live in Australia...that is fascinating...would love to get there someday...I lived in Quebec for 4 years....a great experience to live in another country....hope to see you someday....I see Greg Smith who lives in CA quite a bit and I am sure he would say hello (He is traveling in Portugal right now)...Bob Bell and Jim Slater, who I see sometimes, are both doing well...

It's sad that it takes times like these to bring back the fond memories. I remember playing football with Kem and Kam in our backyards. The Deetz house was like a sporting goods store. They had enough equipment to outfit an entire team.

I didn't realize Kem only lived about 35 miles away from us. Sadly it had been almost fifty years since I had seen him. Sorry.

I didn't know Kem well but I always remember the few times we interacted ....There was once a scene in the boys locker room where we almost got into a fight because a highly contested "one on one" trial during basketball tryouts. He could have destroyed me but he held back. Thank god. Another time he gave me a ride on his motorcycle that took us down a hill in the park in Berea. It scared the crap out of me. Was never so happy to be let off and on my way on foot. Another time I was in a difficult situation in need of replacing a fifth of whiskey in order to stay out of trouble with some authorites. I asked Kem if he could procure the booze for me. Well, don't know how he aquired it but he graciously deliverd the goods with a big smile. I'm grateful for his presence in my life though it be a tiny slice. Beautiful Soul indeed! Sending my best to the othereside... See you soon enough Brother.

I remember Kem well, but mainly from Fairwood days and playing football (tackle) in the fall.  I loved it, but tried out for the football team at Roehm in 7th grade and didn't make it (ditto basketball).  Memories...I can't remember when we first knew each other but were in the same classes at Fairwood.  At Roehm we were in different classes and drifted apart.
