Graduated from Miami of Ohio in 1971, and went to Air Force pilot training in Texas. Vietnam came to an end and the Air Force's need for pilots plummeted overnight and I was out. I stayed in anyhow for six years, four of them in England.
Married Patti Ryan, another Miami grad, in June of 1972.
We lived for a year in Sacramento (I was stationed at Mather, AFB), then four years in Great Britain, sixty miles north of London.
We left the Air Force in 1977 when the four year tour there ended, and I went back to school for a degree in professional photography at the Rochester Institute of Technology. Have stayed in Rochester as a commercial photographer ever since.
Anyone who knew me at Berea High knew I always had a camera in my hands . . . still do! I'm one of the lucky ones who gets to earn his living doing what he's passionate about.
Our four kids are 35, 34, 28 and 21, and all thriving (thank god). I've launched whole hog into cool photography directions, included shooting 360ยบ interactive panoramas underwater.
My wife Patti was a Bedford girl, we met at Miami U (O) and married a year after graduation. We're half way through our 37th year together.
Here's a shot of the family taken six or seven years ago:

Here's my favorite photo of me having fun with photography, taken a year ago a couple miles off Grand Bahama 100 feet deep in front of the shipwreck THEO:

School Story: |

Some of my best high school memories center around being on the swim team. Bud Ross and I were a springboard diving duo and had a good deal of success with it. We continued to dive together at Miami U (O).
My MOST memorable event though was being busted for buying beer underage. Jeff Sutherland, Rich Baggs and I were caught by a fluke and the town of Berea forgave us our transgression, but we had to testify against Skips in court. How embarrassing! The town was trying to shut Skips down and WE were their way of doing it. Man, did we get the evil eye from everybody else who had been buying their beer at Skips! Lucky for us that the town failed in its attempt to shut Skips down (whew). |
