I agree to the "Gentle Giant" characterization of Jim.
I recall two memories to support this;
1. In a Roehm Gym class we shared, Mr. Jarvis (Tommy's Dad) ordered us to a relay race, doing the "Crab Walk"...Jim & I were on the same team; remember looking over at each other after just finishing, our size difference always evident, his red face...both of us laughed at each other. He really could "Haul it".
2. His disposition. Gentle. From his Mother, I'm sure. She was our Playground Supervisor at Parknoll Elementary School...a fixture of authority there. A direct but soft spoken figure. Respected for that...like her son.
Condolences to All his Family.

Jon, speaking of gym class, I had to run a 100 yard dash against him, probably 10th grade. He slipped in the cinders and fell at the start, but still beat me! The man could move!

John:
Hilarious. Jim gave me a reason NOT to go out for "real football"...to get hit even ONCE, by a guy his size, his mass...at speed...
Running on those cinders was insane.
And, if you fell...it hurt AND left a mark. My wife ran track in HS; she still has 1" scar from falling...
Remember running the dreaded 600, in Roehm Phys Ed Class...seemed like 1000 yards on thoses cindery marbles...
