Dave was always a sports enthusiast. I remember watching him play football for Midpark at the BW stadium under the lights on Friday nights. Somehow high school football on Friday nights was always much more exotic than college football on Saturday afternoons in broad daylight. But my most vivid memory of Dave is when we played "Bombardment" at C. A. Thomas Elementary School. Dave was always one of the four pin guards. The idea was to use a volley ball to knock down all four pins on the opposite team before they knocked down all of your pins, but you had to throw the ball from behind the center line between the two teams. If you caught the ball you were safe, but if the ball hit you and then hit the ground you were out of the game. Often the end of the game came down to tring to knock Dave out or knock down his pin. I can still picture his protective crouch over the pin.
