John Carl “Jack” Steinhoff, 63, of Somonauk, IL, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2017 at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 16, 1953 in Chicago, IL, the son of Joseph and Irma (Rohr) Steinhoff. He married Iris A. Bannister on June 14, 1975 in Sandwich, IL. Jack was a member of the Moose Lodge and the Illinois Fire Chief’s Association. He worked as a firefighter at Fermilab in Batavia, becoming the Fire Chief in 1994 and retired after 37 years of service. Jack also served on the Stickney, Lisle, Somonauk and Montgomery Fire Departments. He enjoyed watching NASCAR and any outdoor activity.

 
He is survived by his wife, Iris of Somonauk, IL; his children, David (IvyJean) Steinhoff of Plano, IL and Diane (Tom) Haggart of Bolingbrook, IL; two granddaughters, Savannah and Adalyn Steinhoff; one sister, Dorothy (Harris) Nicholson of Wheaton, IL; his mother-in-law, Ora June Bannister of Shabbona, IL; his sister-in-law, Barb Bannister of Sandwich, IL; his brother-in-law, Richard (Sharon) Bannister of Glen Ellyn, IL; and several dear relatives.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Irma and his father-in-law, Russell Bannister.
