ANNOUNCEMENTS

An eerie anniversary turned into a celebration. Some of you might remember what happened to Marti Mull Belluschi on March 21, 1964. She and her Dad were hit head on by a drunk driver. Luckily they both survived. This was the 60th anniversary of the horrible crash, so we celebrated her survival with her (long distance). Marti treated the group to some appetizers and desserts which we shared at lunch at The Tangled Wood in Bettendorf. We are grateful for her generosity (again), and all of us are happy to know that Marti has survived and thrived! A photo of the luncheo was added to the Lunch Bunch gallery.

Pat Stephenson Ferrell has a tiny, elderly (90+), neighbor who has been coming to our Lunch Bunch luncheons with Pat for over a year.  Her name is Marge Pentland and she is quite a character. Anyway I suggested to the Lunch Bunch that we make Marge an Honorary BHS Bulldog.  Deb Pelo Guilfoyle (in the picture with Marge) made and framed the signed certificate for her, and then we presented it to Marge on February 29 (Leap Year Day) at lunch at Granite City. Thanks to Bob Haessler and Pat for the photos in the Lunch Bunch gallery.

Did you know that the Bettendorf Community Foundation has a number of funds to which you can donate?  I looked through the list and recognized the following names on the scholarships: the Dan Claussen Memorial Scholarship, the Don and Mary Schaefer Science Scholarship, the Verla Funk Math Scholarship, and the Wil Hanson Inspire Kindness Scholarship.  I also saw the Bettendorf H. S. Drama Scholarship and the Veterans Memorial Endowment. The foundation has been collecting donations for worthy causes for sixty years. If you want more info, please e-mail them at <:info@qccommunityfoundation.org>.

I have added a new page to our website. I called it "Teachers in WWII" to honor the service our teachers did for us and our country before we were born. Curious? Take a look. Click on the link on the webpage and download the file. Thanks to Barbara Kelly for kick-starting this project.
