WALLS, Miss. -- Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Holding Funeral Home Chapel in Big Stone Gap, Va. Pastor Wayne Poteet will officiate. Burial will be in Glencoe Cemetery in Big Stone Gap. Mr. Quillen, 34, formerly of Big Stone Gap, died Friday, Dec. 3, 1999, in The Med in Memphis, Tenn., as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Big Stone Gap, a son of the late Herschel Reed Quillen and Georgia Junell Phillips Quillen. He was a 1983 graduate of Powell Valley High School, a 1990 graduate of Clinch Valley College and was employed as a chemist with Cargill Inc. in Memphis. He was of the Baptist faith. Surviving are his wife, Maryls Giles Quillen; two sisters, Kathy Vernon and Brenda Smith, both of Big Stone Gap; two nephews; and two nieces. Among survivors are brothers-in-law, Jim Vernon and William C. Smith, both of Big Stone Gap; two nephews, Brent Vernon of St. Louis, Mo., and Shawn Smith of Duffield, Va.; two nieces, Kristie Qualls of Duffield and Cindy Bishop of Big Stone Gap; several uncles; and an aunt. He also leaves behind his pet dog, Sooner. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Monday in Holding Funeral Home.
