United States Woman Shot Dead by Pawn Shop Clerk While Buying a Gun Gadsden Times (Alabama) / AP 5 Nov 2005 A single mother is dead in what Birmingham police are calling an apparent accident while she shopped for a gun. Police said a pawn shop clerk was handing a weapon to 24-year-old Alethia Brewster when it discharged. The bullet struck her in the chest, killing her. Friends say the East Lake woman had been worried about her safety and decided to purchase a handgun. The incident happened Wednesday at JoJo's Gun-and-Pawn on Crestwood Boulevard. Man!!! LELE was my girl, we actually kicked it a couple of times before she passed. Chris and I used to chill with her and her man friend, which was one of Chris's co-workers at the time.
