Charles Lawson

Memories 

Deacon Charles P. Lawson was born July 8, 1923 to the late Rev. Isom and Leanna Lawson of Demopolis, Alabama. Brother Lawson accepted Christ at an early age. He departed this life on May 20, 2004.
 
Brother Lawson was united in 45 years of Holy Matrimony to the late Myrtlene B Lawson on May 22, 1948. To this union, they were given three girls and a “Charge to keep; let us go unto Dathan.” Keeping this charge Bro. Lawson moved to Dothan and united his family with Adam Street Baptist Church, now known as the Greater Beulah Baptist Church. Bro. Lawson served as devoted Sunday School Teacher, Choir Member, a Devoted Hymnologist and Deacon for many years until his illness in 1997. He was appointed Chairman of Deacons at Adam Street Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. E. D. Jones. He served in this capacity for over 20 years.
 
Bro. Lawson attended Alabama State University, where he received a Masters degree in Science and Mathematics. He pledged the Beta Upsilon Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity during the time at Alabama State University.
 
He was then employed by the Houston County Board of Education as Principal of Philadelphia School and later taught Science, Mathematics and coached many athletic activities for many years and affectionately earned the name “Phessor Lawson”. After retiring from the mainstream classroom, he taught Adult Basic Education for 10 years for the Houston County System. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #344.
 
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Myrtlene Lawson, on daughter Drendia Lawson Lewis. He leaves to cherish his memory and legacy Vivian (George) Jarman, Atlanta, GA, Patricia Jackson, Dothan, AL, Jacqueline (Charlie) Lester; to sisters-in-law; Agnes Campbell, Tuskegee, AL, Ruby Carter, Yorktown, VA; grandchildren; Yananda M. Lawson, Shea Jarman, Patrick Chambers, Ashleigh Lester, Asaaad Lester; great-grandchildren; Sederice LeCharles Lawson; a host of relatives and loving friends.
