The Shearer/Lawson Family Reunion Committee is very pleased to announce the details of our family reunion to be held in Atlanta, Georgia on June 11-13, 2021. We are honored to plan and host our family reunion this year, and we have worked hard to put together a weekend of activities and entertainment that all will enjoy.
We have selected The American Hotel by Hilton as our host hotel for the family reunion. The American Hotel is centrally located in the Centennial Park District near popular attractions such as The SkyView Ferris Wheel, Georgia Aquarium, World of Coca-Cola, the CNN Center, and The College Football Hall of Fame. In keeping with the theme of celebrating our history, this hotel holds special significance as downtown Atlanta’s first hotel welcoming guests of all races when it first opened in 1962. The mid-century modern style, artwork and historical photos include images of music and movie stars of that era, and dignitaries such as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
We have been provided special nightly group rates of $129/double and $109/king, plus taxes. The hotel also has valet only parking, which is being provided to us at $25/per night. In order to receive these discounted group rates, reservations must be made by May 21, 2021. Reservations received after May 21, 2021 will be provided on a space-available basis at the standard rates.

Important Note: Incidentals: There will be a $50 hold per night on each guestroom. This is standard for most hotels, and can be used to cover room incidental charges, such as parking, room service, movie rentals, etc. Guests have the option to pay this fee in cash or have the amount held on their card. This cash/hold (minus any incidental charges) will be released at checkout. If a major credit card is used the funds will be made available immediately. If a bank debit card is used, the funds will be made available within 3-7 business days, depending on your financial institution.
There will be table set up in the lobby of the The American Hotel on Friday, June 11th to welcome arriving guests. Please come by and pick up your welcome packets.
Join us at the banquet on the evening of Friday, June 11th at Paschal’s Restaurant, which is located just a five-minute car ride away from the hotel in the heart of the historic Castleberry Hill neighborhood. Since 1947 Paschal’s is known for its exceptional southern cuisine, upscale atmosphere, retro style, and over the years became known as the “meeting place” for some of the most notable entertainers, politicians, and businesspersons, including Aretha Franklin, Andrew Young, Dizzy Gillespie and Maynard Jackson, the first black mayor of Atlanta, Georgia and of any major city in the South. It will be an unforgettable night.
The family picnic, which will be held on Saturday, June 12th, is always fun-filled when the Shearer-Lawson clan gets together. There will be games, good food, and good company. More details to come.
We will wrap up a weekend of family love and festivities by worshipping together on Sunday, June 13th at Ebenezer Baptist Church. This church, once pastored by Martin Luther King, Sr. and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr, is located in Atlanta’s historic Sweet Auburn district, near the Martin Luther King, Jr., National Historic Site.
We understand the financial impact that vacations can have on families and we are happy to accept payment installments on banquet and picnic fees. The balance must be paid in full by May 31, 2021.
