Velma Dobbins (Shoemake) - Class Of 1953

Mrs. Velma Louise Dobbins Shoemake, of Jacksonville FL, passed away peacefully December 13, 2014. She was a native Birmingham, AL, graduating from Wenonah High School and furthered her education at Lawson Business College. Mrs. Shoemake was a loyal member of Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church where she served with the Adult Sunday School, Senior Women Ministry, Maggie Kemp Fellowship Choir, District #6, and Mass Choir. She was also an active member at Riverview Senior Activities Center. Survivors include her husband, Zebedee Shoemake; children, Tina Williams, Shelia Cummings, Lawrence Shoemake (Judy), James Shoemake and Deirdre Shoemake; grandchildren, Anthony Dempsey, II, James Shoemake, II (Tina), Alexis Cummings and Jonathan Shoemake; great grandchildren, Anthony Dempsey, III, Shayla Fletcher, Jada Shoemake, Imani Shoemake and Kayden Shoemake; sister-in-law, Mrs. Nellie Hardison; aunt, Mrs. Lucinda Adams; and many other loving relatives and friends. The family will receive friends at Alphonso West Mortuary, Inc. 4409 Soutel Dr., on FRIDAY, December 19, 2014 from 5 PM until 8 PM. Viewing at the church on Saturday from 9 AM until the hour of service. The Home-going Celebration will be at 11 AM, SATURDAY, December 20, 2014 at Zion Hope Missionary Baptist Church, 2803 Edgewood Ave. W. Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery.
