WILLIAM HAWES, age 86, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away September 10, 2011. Mr. Hawes was a long time member of St. John A.M.E. Church. He was a dedicated educator for over forty years and worked in both the Jefferson County and Birmingham City School Systems. He served as Principal of Pipe Shop Elementary, Westfield High School and Wenonah High School. He was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. He leaves to cherish his memory: a loving daughter, Debra (Darryl) Crook; an adored granddaughter, Jordan Alexandra Crook; one uncle, Thomas Jackson; three nieces, Yolanda F. Hawes, Yvette Hawes Hawkins and Yvonne C. Hawes; three god-grandchildren, Nicole Humphrey Dumas, Marcus Humphrey and Christian Williams. Viewing will be held Thursday, September 15, 2011 from 11:00 A.M. until 6:00 P.M. with the Phi Beta Sigma homegoing ceremony and family visitation from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. at Smith & Gaston Southside Chapel. Graveside service will be held Friday, September 16, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Elmwood Cemetery. Smith & Gaston Southside directing. >
