Dee Lewis sent me a wonderful link and I am passing it along to you. I know you will enjoy it as much as I did!

I thought this was fitting with the upcoming reunion. It was a terrific time to grow up and there was no better place than B'ham. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jjj9VKKSV2g

Concerning Duke Rumor his opening line on his show was

" Hello Everybody

This is Duke the Spook

Tune Tycoon

Duke of the dial of the center aisle

Commen to you over seven strands of barbed wired.

Let's Dance. "

Bobby - How did you remember that?

Rick Bryant

I didn't remember all of it - but I think there was another line in there also. My recollection of the first part goes like this:

This is Duke the Spook,

The Toon Tycoon,

Your Daddy-O on the Radio (radio pronounced to rhyme with Daddy-O).

what I discovered junior year was "Duke and Dixieland" every weekend at the Ensley Armory. People from all over B'ham would meet and dance. met a lot of people from other schools. Great fun, great music, great dancing.

It's easy to remember what Duke said 50 years ago. I just can't remember what was said yesterday.

Dee Lewis sent me the following message today which I would like to share with you!

Seeing this 50th reunion, I found this funny. You know the old saying, "If the sow fits ... ". Feel free to post this you see fit: OLD FART PRIDE I'm passing this on as I did not want to be the only old fart receiving it. Actually, it's not a bad thing to be called, as you will see. Old Farts are easy to spot at sporting events; during the playing of the National Anthem. Old Farts remove their caps and stand at attention and sing without embarrassment. They know the words and believe in them. Old Farts remember World War II, Pearl Harbour , Guadalcanal , Normandy and Hitler. They remember the Atomic Age, the Korean War, The Cold War, the Jet Age and the Moon Landing. They remember the 50 plus Peacekeeping Missions from 1945 to 2005, not to mention Vietnam . If you bump into an Old Fart on the sidewalk he will apologize. If you pass an Old Fart on the street, he will nod or tip his cap to a lady. Old Farts trust strangers and are courtly to women. Old Farts hold the door for the next person and always, when walking, make certain the lady is on the inside for protection. Old Farts get embarrassed if someone curses in front of women and children and they don't like any filth or dirty language on TV or in movies. Old Farts have moral courage and personal integrity. They seldom brag unless it's about their children or grandchildren. It's the Old Farts who know our great country is protected, not by politicians, but by the young men and women in the military serving their country. This country needs Old Farts with their work ethic, sense of responsibility, pride in their country and decent values. We need them now more than ever. Thank God for Old Farts! Pass this on to all the "Old Farts" you know. I was taught to respect my elders. It's just getting harder to find them.

That should read "If the shoe fits...", not sow. :)

Here is another great posting from Dee Dee Lewis.

This gets a little away from B'ham, but all of the postings have brought back so many memories, I had to share this one. My family vacationed a lot outside of Panama City, Fl on Sunnyside Beach. No condos or hotels, just cabins with no AC, nestled next to dunes, and looking out to the pristine sand, like fine sugar, and the Gulf of Mexico. Behind a place called the Sea Horse was a terrific place called The Hangout. It was a place families and teenagers would go to watch and do rock-n-roll jitterbug / bop dancing. The best jitterbug / bop dancing I ever saw were these two boys (one wore old military school pants) who had a dance routine second to none. When the danced, everyone cleared off the floor to watch. The watching crowd ate it up. This was back when my dad "made" me dance with my older sister, Lynne, so she could practice. I even remember practicing the bop by holding onto the doorknob of an open/swinging door. What exciting times they were. Post this and the attached photos on the reunion web page if you wish. :)

Oh how I remember Panama City, SunnySide Beach, Long Beach and the Hang-Out. We vacationed there every year for at least 20 years and my Grandfather rented a BIG house for my 20 or so cousins and the rest of the family.

We all went to Captain Anderson's for dinner --  Fun Fun memories with lots of sun-burn while building castles in the sand. Larry and the Loafers Band playing "The Panama City Blues" !  Those were the Days!

We still vacation in Florida but  in Destin and along 30A in Watercolor.....a little different from the 50's and 60's, ---- now I'm the granddad and enjoy our six grandchildren!

What a great two nights for the CLASS of '64. The reunion certainly exceeded my expectations! So great to see everyone again! Special shout outs to Libby, Tony Milazzo, Bill Emanuel, Edward Goolsby, Alan Downs, Roland,    Jody, and Leslie Jacobs - all of  whom I grew up with at Glen Iris and Ramsay - you all looked great and haven't missed a beat! Hopefully,  all of the class can still keep in touch and continue to communicate with each other. We definitely did the Big Five-0 right!!! Congrats to Johnny, Libby, Jody, Cathy....and all the planners for an excellent reunion ! Ramblers - always hitting the right notes

BTW..... was their any female attendee that DID NOT DANCE with Larry Wilson??  Just asking.....

All The Best,

Jack & Susan Barefield

Jack, I didn't dance with Larry. I'm afraid I wouldn't have been able to keep up with him! Nice seeing you. It was a fun weekend.

I had a blast this whole weekend! Everything was perfect!  It was great to remeet everyone and fortunate to learn that many of us live in the Birmingham area.  Life is precious, and we should get together more often to celebrate the people who helped us become who we are.

I especially want to thank everyone on the planning committee for your diligent work to help make our 50th Reunion a smashing success.  The real fun is in all the planning meetings.

Love to all,

Susan Russo Nichols

I have looked at the photos that have been posted ( the Then and Now).  From what I tell, y'all are looking better with age.  I am amazed at the Nows.

Sorry I missed the Reunion.  It sounds like it was a total success.
