50th Reunion
September 27 - 28, 2013
Holiday Inn and Suites
3202 E. Empire Street
Bloomington, IL
The committee has met and has made a decision on a few things concerning our 50th reunion. First was the location. It will be at the Holiday Inn and Suites on Rt. 9 across the street from the airport. We did our homework and found that we could get the best deal for our budget there.
Second was the date. It will be September 27 and 28, 2013. There will be a buffet dinner. More details coming soon.
Third was the cost per person. The cost will be $50 a person. That may sound high but keep in mind the last two reunions we charged $35 a person and lost money on both. This will be a very nice setting and will be well worth the cost. The cost includes both Friday night and Saturday night. Details for Friday night are yet to be decided but will be in the Hospitality Suite at the Holiday Inn.
They also will provide 60's music piped in through their sound system so we will not need a DJ,

BLOOMINGTON — Leighton E. Ellis, 90, a longtime resident of Bloomington-Normal, passed away Saturday (May 12, 2012) at Heritage Health, Bloomington, one month after the death of his wife, Rose.
Cremation rites will be accorded. A graveside service at Funks Grove will be planned at a future date.
Kibler-Brady-Ruestman Memorial Home, Bloomington, is handling arrangements.
Leighton, who preferred the nickname Lee, was born Jan. 13, 1922, in the small Danish farming community of Newell, Iowa. He was the youngest son of Martha and Loren Ellis. Lee was a mischievous, free-spirited youth. He married Opal Anderson after high school graduation. During World War II, he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces to become a pilot and proudly flew 18 missions in the B-24 Liberator. On April 8, 1945, Lt. Ellis was shot down over Brenner Pass, a mile from the German border, and was interred in Switzerland until the end of the war.
During the war, his wife Opal died and, upon his return to the U.S., he met and married Maxine Winn in 1946. They had three children. In 1964, Lee married Rose Ring, who had two daughters. He was a great dad to all.
Lee described himself as a jack of all trades and a master of none. He had an insatiable curiosity about everything in life and loved learning. He had a vast assortment of interests and hobbies such as fishing, camping, gardening and was an avid hunter. He ran a restaurant. He studied to be a veterinarian, but dropped out of school to help his wife’s parents run their Minnesota resort. He raised and trained German shorthaired pointers and Weimaraners for hunting and show. He worked for the House of a Million Items in Bloomington selling and buying antiques and as an accountant for IAA. Lee built Lindal Cedar homes and developed Tamarack Acres near Kappa. In 1988, he retired as a maintenance supervisor for Heritage Manor in Normal.
Lee was a humble, kind, generous soul with a wicked sense of humor. He made a difference in all the lives he touched. He gave his family strength and stability and instilled an appreciation for all that life has to offer.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents; his wives; and a brother, Wayne.
He is survived by a brother, C.J. Ellis, Houston, Texas; his daughter and sons, Linda (Greg) Katmarian, Mission Viejo, Calif.; Scott (Lucena) Ellis, Tampa, Fla.; and Lance (Diana) Ellis, Lehi, Utah; and stepdaughters, Carol Ring, Evanston, and Jane (Howard) Van Schelt, Normal; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
