Merry Christmas!

I hope you all take the time to let your family in for a short while on this Christmas day in a year that so many have chosen to stay away from each other.

And a Merry Christmas to all our classmates, and a Happy New Year 2021 to come.  We did get to see my sons for Christmas at Scott's house.  There were just 5 of us there, but it was GREAT!!!  We had icy and snowy roads out to Prior Lake.  Santa would have loved it!!

Take care everybody and hope this finds everyone well and staying safe.  We still hope to get to AZ this winter when things settle down a bit more.  Meanwhile, I am frozen!!   Let's try for a '63 gathering in the Spring.  I miss you all.  Lee

I haven't posted on here in a long time. When we get to this age it is great to see so many of you are still helping the world be a better place.  It is sad to go to this site because a notice came of another good class mate passed away.  I am looking forward to my oldest daughter Roxann is coming from Baltimore for my 76th birthday. We will probably celibrate at my youngest daughters house in Minnetoka MN

My oldest son is living and working in Germany and can not leave the country.  He and his wife send us great photos of Germany when the go bike riding. They pu over 4000 miles last year on their bikes. My younest son lives in North Carolina and is able to work from any where so they are currently visiting the south west part of the U.S. and exploring the great out of doors with their son.  Hope everybody is having a good start to 2021.

On March 18, 2021, my 104 year old mom, Irene HInke, passed away into the loving arms of our Lord and Savior.  She made it through her favorite holiday, Saint Patrick's Day, but not to her 105th in June.  I was lucky to have had so much time with her. Her obituary can be found in the Star Tribune Obituaries.

Yesterday's Minneapolis paper contained an obituary notice for Warren Beck. Living in Arizona, he passed away  4/26/2021. It should be noted in our In Memory section.

Wes Donnelly was a member of our class, but when he moved from Des Moines, Iowa he was 1 credit short and had to take a class that summer. I think he should be listed as a class member. Any thoughts or opinions? If he is included his e-mail address wrdonnelly@hotmail.com. Wes and I have maintained contact over the years. He's retired and lives in Butte, Montana.

I always thought Wes was listed as a class member.  If my memory serves my right, although it may not, Wes came to one of our reunions and also married someone from our class.  Just because he didn't walk down the aisle with us doesn't mean he wasn't a classmate.

I never realized that he wasn't on the list.  He certainly should be on it.

I've joined the English County Dance group at the Tapestry Folk Dance Center in Mpls.  No partner is needed and most dancers are our age.  It's an easy on your knees dance. So if interested  just show up at 7 p.m. on Sunday.

Hi Margot

If you do any Morris Dancing be careful, Wacking those sticks together while hopping around can get tricky. Enjoy!

Hello classmates.  I'm sorry to share some sad news regarding Lorraine Samuelson Hansen from her daughter Chersti.  Please post your best wishes here.  According to Chersti, Lorraine cannot have visitors due to Covid but if she is transferred to another facility, there's a possibility the rules will be less strict.  I will post any updates she provides.  Here is Chersti's note:

This is Chersti. I want to give you recent developments w/my mom ..

Lorraine has fallen and has sustained a devastating injury to her spinal cord.

She's stabilized, not in any pain but the prognosis isn't good. She's paralyzed from the neck down but has been (mostly) lucid and maintains mental acuity.

They can’t say for sure how long she has left. Maybe days, weeks or a few months.

What they see often is if the inflammation gets out of control it will affect her breathing more to the point where she can't breathe on her own. And that's when the no life support measures come in (no breathing tube) and she would pass peacefully.

Because of the severity of the injury to her spinal cord (in her case C5 and C6) the inflammation will continue to worsen. Because of her co-morbidities (age, physical condition) even something seemingly innocuous as her catching a cold will hasten her passing.

She’s currently in palliative care at ISJ Mayo Hospital in Mankato. We are awaiting placement for Lorraine in residential hospice care.

So sorry to have to send such horrific news. Please be sure to let me know if you have any questions.

Love,
-Chersti

Dear Classmates, below is the note I received this morning from Lorraine Samuelson Hansen's daughter.  We've lost another wonderful friend - one who added kindness and humor to the world.

Good Morning, All.

It’s with a broken heart that I am writing to tell you, my mom, Lorraine, passed away last night (11/9/21) at 11:30 pm.

We played some of her favorite songs by John Prine, Paul Simon, Iris Dement and others, and she passed away peacefully shortly thereafter.

Like my dad, she bequeathed her body to the University of MInnesota Medical School to continue teaching.

Thank you for the outpouring of support and love you’ve shown my mom, and me and Joe during these past several weeks.

We will hold a memorial service after Thanksgiving; details to follow.

❤️
-Chersti

Chersti,

I am so sorry to hear about the loss of your mother.  She was a friend for many years.  Even though we didn't see each other very often I certainly have thought about her and tried to stay in contact in the past few years.  Sincere sympathy to you and your family.
