I'd like to make a suggestion to all those classmates out there that are "maybe I'll be coming to the reunion" people. Some have said that they will come to the next one but not this one...I'd like to remind you that the work that goes into bringing one of these reunions to fruition is getting harder and harder each time . There are a few motivated individuals that take it upon themselves to actually get the ball rolling every 5 years and a relatively small, dedicated group that joins in to do the work. There are no guarantees that enough people will be ready , willing and able to do this again in another 5 years. I know of many classes before and after us that do not have reunions anymore due to the lack of people willing to organize. So please think about it again and try to make coming to this years event a priority. There are no cliques anymore. Most people have not seen eachother in years( maybe decades). There will be people there as singles as well as couples. Relax, don't be self conscious ...time is the great equilizer. Come have fun at a luau!

Thank you to those who have worked on organizing the class reunions especially the upcoming one. I look forward to seeing everyone next month. Many I haven't seen since graduation. The website is awesome. Thanks, Jeff, for all the hard work.

I got a chance to listen to Davis & McKay ( Mike Greenfield's Duo)play last night at Vintage Wine and Beer on South Ave. They were absolutely wonderful. Everyone there enjoyed listening( and sometimes singing along) to songs from our generation as well as some of their own creations. Everyone should not miss the pre reunion thing at Rusty's on July 17th where they will be performing. See you all there( along with some of my friends & family that want to attend just so they can hear Mike and Dennis play again).

As we approach our 40th reunion I keep hearing the words of an old song going through my head. You probably remember it too:
" Those were the days my friend we thought they'd never end we'd sing and dance forever and a day. We'd live the life we choose. We'd fight and never lose.
Those were the days, oh yes; those were the days"
With news of Jan's tragic loss of her love, Jon. I am struck by remembering how very young and naive we all were 40 years ago as we walked out of Boardman High School and into the real world. We will be joining together once more, only this time most of us will know oh so much more of life. We will have found the love of a significant other( if we were lucky enough), some will have known the loss of that love as well, some will have known the joy of parenthood and some even the impossibly unimaginable loss of a child. Many, dare I say most, will know what it feels like to have lost a parent or both, we will have known career successes and failures, we will have achieved our dreams, forgotten what our dreams were and created new ones...some of us may have looked death in the eye ourselves...
we have learned that our bodies do indeed have physical limits and yes, we will look in the mirror and see our mother's or father's face & body staring back at us.
So many of our fellow classmates have already finished their time here on Earth. I'm sure that if I am reading some fellow BHS'69 classmate’s obituary in 2040 I will still be shocked and thinking "How can this happen to someone my age?"
But truly, we should all be so proud of ourselves for just being here and making it to this point in the journey. None of us get out of this place unscathed so when we meet each other, lets look into those eyes ,that are still the eyes we daily passed in school halls ,and smile knowing that there goes a fellow journeyer who once walked along the same path with you.

Dear Jan,

My heartfelt sympathy and condolences for your loss. How very sad that we are certain of losing our loved ones, some sooner than others. Those of us still lucky enough to be here must treasure the good times all the more.
My thoughts and prayers are with you......dear classmate.

I was just in Boardman last weekend for a family wedding, as most of my family is still there. And now I find a situation which makes it impossible for me to attend our 40 th HS reunion. I am sorry to have to miss it.

For those that will attend, have a great time and enjoy each other, for life is short.

Best Always,

Debbie Riffle Freund

Jan,
I am so very sorry to hear about your loved one, Jon. My thoughts and prayers are with you and all of your family.
How short life is and when one hears how quickly life can be taken let us all reflect how valuable life is and enjoy each moment.

I am so sorry I couldn't attend our classreunion this weekend, but I am sure everyone will be thinking of you, Jan, and hoping you will have strength and much support from all your loved ones during this difficult time.

God bless you,

Sandy Martin (Miller)

Kudos to Jeff for the website. Kudos to the reunion committee for doing an awesome job for us. What a wonderful evening it was! It would be nice to get the names of everyone in the pictures.
Thank you Diane Zoldan Burda for your message. How very true and thought provoking your words are.
I hope that those of us in the area can stay in touch and not wait 5 or 10 years to see each other. I hope that those who live here but not in the profiles or participating will get on board.
Again, thank you reunion committee!

At the end of last nights festivities I came to this conclusion:
Whether we knew each other a little or a lot, whether we knew each other from Kindergarten or just the last year of high school, we all had an impact on our lives. We probably did not know at the time and we may not ever have realized it, but all of us influenced each other in some minute or major way. And for that we owe ourselves a big thank you.

Best wishes to everyone and thanks to our reunion committee for one of the most memorable reunions.

I would just like to add to the previous messages and send my sincere thanks to the Reunion Committee. All of your hard work made it possible for those of us that attended to have a truly delightful weekend. It was great to be able to see some people for the first time in 30-40 years, to catch up with those that we'd seen in between, and, in each case, rediscover what made us friends to begin with. Chuck is so right that we all collectively helped to make each of us the individuals that we are. Hopefully, those that couldn't make it this time around will be able to be with us at our next one.

I have been "reviewing" last night in my mind all day long. What a fun, fun evening! I join the others in thanking the committee for all their hard work and the time they gave to make this reunion so memorable. To those who were there - it was great to get reconnected. To those who were unable to make it - WE MISSED YOU! Can't wait to be together again in 5 years!

Hi all!

What a fun weekend. I really enjoyed seeing all of you and getting reaquainted. There is something special about our class. I don't say that lightly. There is a real dynamic of care and concern for one another, and that's what sets us apart. It is only going to grow from here. I can't wait to see all of you at the 45th!

Coming back to the reunions was not on my "Bucket List" (if you all saw the movie you would know it is what you want to do before yo die. BUT, due to Jerry Habor finding me and Diane Berkowitz talking me into flying to Ohio, I would have missed one of the best times I have had in a long while. I lost my Husband to Cancer. He was my best friend, and the love of my life. I know how Jan feels and it is not an easy place to get away from. Grief for a spouse is so very crushing, to not only your heart, but to your whole every day life. This year I am trying to climb out of my deep hole and make new normals in my life. The time spent with all of you at the reunion was a big step towards the top of my hole.
I had such a great time with all of you and will try my best to keep in touch with those that have reached out already with their kindness, in sendng me notes and pictures and books to read. Thank you XXOO

The reunion was so much fun that it seems a shame to wait another 5 years before we get together. Lucy suggested we all celebrate the year of our 60th birthdays together, 2011. Sound good?
