I got married in 1990. Joined the Mountainboro Vol Fire Department in 1993 after running with them for 3 yrs. since my husband had been a member since he was 18. After several yrs. of trying to have kids I found out I had cancer in 2000 and had to have surgery to be told that I could never have kids. For someone who had always dreamed of the fact of having kids it was a heart breaker that I thought me and my husband would not get over. After a while we desided to look into adopting we had heard of so many kids needing adopting and if we would of had our own we would have never thought about it I dont think. After several years of trying to get a baby and being with an agency (it is definately harder than some people think expecially the paperwork) we were unsuccessful. One day me and my husband were talking with one of his friends when out of the blue he said hey I have to tell yall about these kids I met. They are so sweet but they are 14 and 15 years old, they are in foster care and would yall consider them. We didnt have to think about it for one second we said yes. So the next day I called DHR and we had to take 10 weeks of parenting classes (required) and we got to meet the kids and hang out and do things with them for a couple of weeks before they came to live with us. We all sit down and discussed the upcomming weeks ahead and if they wanted to live with us. Needless to say after alot of more paperwork and social workers and such we finally got to adopt them and be able to call them ours on November 12,2008 (the national day of adoption) after they had been with us since August 7,2007. They were worth the wait and I would not change anything. It took years but we never gave up. Always look to GOD above he knows what hes doing and he knows just when to do it. He was my inspiration and the only reason I never gave up, he was there when I needed someone the most.
