Noel Greene

New information has resulted in a recommendation to place Noel Greene on the Veteran's Memorial at Pop Keeney Fieid. The new information is as follows.

Last Primary NEC: 132X-Unrestricted Line Officer - Naval Flight Officer. 

     He was the Comanding Officer of VAQ-136 aircraft while stationed with CVW-5 aboard the USS Midway CV-43. The Air Wing was stationed in Atsugi, Japan, while the ship was homeported in Yokosuka, Japan. The squadron won the Battle E that year in his leadership. 

     Noel lived in Yokosuka with his wife, the former Sally Dawn Masters Thomas Green, his daughter Courtney Diane DePuisaye Greene, and son Cameron Elliot Dupuisaye Greene. 

Hometown: New Westminster, B.C.

Date of Passing: November 19, 1987

Location of Internment: Buried at Sea - N/A, Indian Ocean

Wall/Plot Coordinates: His aircraft was lost with all hands on 19 Nov. 1987 on a dark night off Sri Lanka en route to the Persian Gulf during an emissions controlled (EMCON) departure. No trace of the aircraft or crew was ever found.

This information is provided by Coulson, James (JC) CAPG who wrote his eulogy. Who also added, "Noel was a man with a great sense of humor. Devoted husband and father, and a Naval Officer who led from the front!" Coulson also said, "I was fortunate to be his assistant Maintenenace Officer in VAQ-130 and then his Maintenance Officer in VAQ-136. He was my mentor, and my best friend in uniform. Giving his eulogy was perhaps the hardest thing I had to do."

I remember Noel as a very decent guy, albeit very quiet and shy. I googled him to find out what happened. He was an officer in the US Navy and died in a shipboard accident on the Indian Ocean in 1987. Rest in peace, Noel. You served your country well.
