Barbara Pierce

Barbara Pierce

Barb (Pierce) Morris died with family on Mt. St. Helens (Eruption). Barbara was a teacher's aide at Olympia High School, located about 3 miles northwest of Coldwater and 11 miles norwest of the volcano. They took several photographs of the blast cloud before it overtook them. The entire family died of ash asphyxiation.

I have such fond memories of Barbara when we were in elementary and early middle school years. Since Barb lived down on Lake Washington we were so lucky to relieve the summer heat right there from her dock. I'll never forget hanging my suit in her changing shack, coming back and putting it on and finding a giant spider between me and the suit! After the screaming died down we laughed until we cried. Another pastime involved sledding down the fantastic hills of the golf course in winter. Barb's spirit was filled with joy and laughter. May we remember that wonderful smile and hold her in our hearts.

Barbara was one of the nicest members of the class of 65. When I heard about Mt St Helen, it was truly a sad moment. Whenever the topic of that volcano comes up, I always remember her. Her life was for a blessing
