Bruce Tietjen died of AIDS in 1996 http://www.ancientfaces.com/person/bruce-e-tietjen/82277341   He was one of my best friends at BHS, with shared interests in photography, cars, music and opera.  We also both went to University of Puget Sound, joined the same fraternity, dated sorority girls, and remained best buddies.  Bruce made many new friends at UPS, and a group of us toasted his memory at a pledge class reunion last weekend.

Don't think I realized Bruce was gay till meeting his housemates after UPS graduation, but they were sharp, fun and talented.  Bruce worked & lived (slowly taking over his dad's insurance agency) near my first home off Roosevelt so we saw each other often throughout the 70's, then less when I moved to Finn Hill.  By the mid 90's I was married & busy with children, but greatly regret that when Bruce passed away I hadn't seen him for 5 or 6 years, had no idea he was ill, and wasn't there for him.

I look forward to a moment of silence next weekend for he and other absent friends from our class.  If you can't make the reunion, watch "Dallas Buyers Club" in memory of Bruce and many others.

Thank you, Jerry for your comments about Bruce Tietjen. I always liked Bruce throughout junior high and high school. He was friendly, funny, kind, and interesting. I was saddened to learn he died of AIDS--a nasty situation to deal with, and much more manageable now, 20 years later. He had a wonderful, outgoing personality and was liked by everyone. The world lost a valuable and productive individual, whom I wish were still around so I could tell him how much I enjoyed him in school.
