Peter Kievenaar

Peter was born June 7, 1947 in Boston, MA, grew up in Braintree, MA and summered in East Bridgewater.  He graduated from Braintree High School and continued on to Clarkson College of Technology in Potsdam, NY.  Peter graduated in May 1970 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering and received his commission in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant.  
He married Joan Spano, June 14, 1970 and then he and Joan left for his first assignment to Fort Belvoir, in Alexandria, VA.  Peter completed his commitment to the Army in September 1972, and returned to Massachusetts.

 
His first position with the navy was at the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport, RI, as a Mechanical Engineer in charge of the ASROC Launcher Program.  He worked there from October 1972 – September 1977.  He then transferred to Boston and worked for the Boston Planning Group, which was the Engineering Section of the former Boston Naval Shipyard.  The BPG became Puget Sound Naval Shipyard Boston Detachment and Peter’s position was Supervisory Naval Architect.  He worked there from 1972 until retirement July 1, 2002.  Peter died on July 22, 2002.  He was a resident of Randolph at that time.  Burial was in Blue Hill Cemetary.
 

Peter was an avid sports fan, he loved to watch or attend whatever games he could – hockey, basketball, football, baseball, soccer, tennis – you name it, he watched it.  He belonged to the Boston Athletic Club for over 20 years and was a member of the Men’s Tennis Tea, Racquet Ball and Squash League.  He was an accomplished slalom water skier.  His two favorite sports were sailing and golf.  Peter will always be known as Peter K and will always be remembered for his smile, sense of humor, dedication to his family, friends and job.  Peter was a fantastic husband and a true friend to all.

Peter was the brother of Jul Homer of E. Bridgewater, Major General Henry Kievenaar of VA and Brenda K. Curley of Boston. Son of the late Henry and Agnes Kievenaar. Also survived by 8 nieces and nephews and 5 great nieces and nephews.

Thank you for your service, Peter.  I was in Newport, RI attending Naval Officer Candidate School (OCS) between Feb - July 1977.  Too bad I didn't know you were also there.  We could have said hello.
