After graduation, I left for Atlanta to attend college, 4 years later I had my BS degree. While in Atlanta I met my husband, Alan who was working on completing his PhD. We were married and later moved to Lancaster, Pa. While there my daughter, Faith was born and we made a decision to return to the south. In 2000, we returned to Alabama and moved to a small town, Winfield, in North Alabama. Alan worked as a psychologist and I worked as a director for a mental health program, when we felt God calling us to the ministry of helping young people and getting out of the rat race/stresses of "professional jobs". After months of research and one long interview process we were offered the position of houseparents at the Milton Hershey School. We have 13 wonderful young ladies (plus Faith) that we raise as surrogate parents while they attend the Milton Hershey School. The Milton Hershey School is a private school that is available to children to attend free of charge based on economic and social need. I now live in a town that smells of chocolate with street lights shaped like Hershey Kisses! We still have our house in Alabama and return several times a year to visit. For now we are called to be in the north, however, upon that age of retirement (closer than ever) we plan to return to that sweet southern air! A lot has happened since 1989 and I feel that I have been totally blessed!
