The "Old" Folks

Following are some photos of the older, really older, generations!

The Hilton Family

Priscilla Knowlton and Charles V. Hilton, parents of William Bainbridge Hilton.  Charles V. Hilton was born in 1799.  Priscilla's father was Joseph Knowlton.  Charles and Priscilla lived in a home on Turner Road in Bremen (house no longer exists).   Besides William, they had only one other child, a daughter who died young.  Priscilla and Charles are buried in the Broad Cove Cemetery.

  Another photo of Priscilla

Two photographs of William Bainbridge Hilton, father of Willis Hilton, as an old man.  Both photographs were probably taken on the same day.  There are no known photographs of William as a young man.  Willaim was born in 1926 and died in 1912.  He is buried in the Broad Cove Cemetery.

Rhoda Little (Hilton), mother of Willis Hilton, as a young woman.  Rhoda was born in 1832.  She was the granddaugther of William H. Little, who originally lived in what we now call the Hilton Homestead, and the daugher of William H. Little, Jr.  She was the niece of Otis Little, another son of William H. Little, who lived in the Homestead after his father.  He had a son, Otis Little, Jr., who was killed in the Civil War.  After his son's death, Otis sold the family farm to Rhoda's husband William Bainbridge Hilton.

Rhoda Little Hilton as an old woman.  She died in 1912 and is buried in the Broad Cove Cemetery next to William.

Nettie Hilton, daughter of William Bainbridge and Rhoda Little Hilton, and sister of Willis Hilton.  Nettie was born in 1862 and died in August 1880 at age 17 from consumption.  She is buried in the Broad Cove Cemetery.

The following clippings were found recently (2010) in an old trunk.  They report the funerals of Rhoda and William Bainbridge Hilton (only three weeks apart in 1912.  The third clipping reports the suicide of isabella Hilton Adams and how she was found by her nephew Willis Hilton.

The Smith Family

Two photos of Lavinia Smith, mother of Linda Smith Hilton.

This photo is of some members of Linda Smith Hilton's family.  They are identified on the back as follows:  Grandpa Smith (don't know if this meant he was Linda's grandfather or her father), Mother Smith, Sister Ella Woodward, Thesa Woodward, Olive Woodward.
