He was an enthusiastic LA booster all his life; he served as an LA Trustee for many years, and was selected as Alumnus of the Year in 197? He attend all LA Alumni Banquets, including his 75th Reunion banquet, except three: one year when he was in the hospital, and then in the last two years of his life. In addition to operating a farm and family store, he worked as foreman of the Medomak Canning Factory in Waldoboro during WW II years and again in the 1960s and 1970s. He was on the Bremen Board of Selectmen for thirteen years (1941 - 1954) and was Bremen's Treasurer and Tax Collector 1955-1989. He served in the Maine Legislature for two terms, 1954-58. He was member of the Waldoboro Lion's Club, including a term as President, the Waldoboro Odd Fellow Lodge, and the Nobleboro and Pomona Granges. He loved sports, dancing, and telling jokes, and inherited his mother's love of animals. He was a member of many bowling teams, both in Damariscotta and later at DePatsy's Lanes in Waldoboro. In his later years he and his wife Freder enjoyed Bingo games, going to as many as six a week. They were also regulars at Moody's Diner in Waldoboro.
