Niki Newton (Collier)

Hi everyone!

I had the best weekend that I can remember having in such a long time.

It was so wonderful to see EVERYONE again.

I enjoyed this reunion so much more than the 10 year and I hope that we can do the 25 year since we had so much positive feedback.

And....we don't have to wait for the year milestones to get together!

Please keep in touch. My email is nicole.collier@premier-research.com.

Hope everyone was able to return home safely and you were able to rest and/or recover....whichever was most appropriate! :-)

Thank you Niki. You worked very hard for the picnic. Next time we'll get more people involved so its not so hard on one person. Every thing went great. I look forward to seeing everyone next time.

THANK YOU to everyone who worked to make this reunion happen. I hope you also got to enjoy it! Rob and I had a great time. My mom really enjoyed seeing ya'll on Sunday, too. Although it was great to see everyone, there are so many of you that I wish I could have caught up with better. It's hard to accomplish that in a weekend, I guess! It was still great, and I can't wait to see pictures! :)

It was a great weekend no doubt! Had a ton of fun. Saturday night was like being back in High School again. I've just barely recovered.

Here's some news. I've made a Facebook group s'pecially for the class of '88. If you are on Facebook, join the group "John S. Battle Class of '88". If you aren't on Facebook, get on and join the group! It'll be a little easier to communicate on there too because we can have threads of conversation so 10 convos aren't going on all mingled in with one another.

Also, I've posted the pictures I took (and the pictures other's took with my camera) on my website. The full size'ers are available if you click on the thumbnail and then click "full size". A right-click, save picture as will give you your very own copy to throw darts at! Consider the photos copyleft'ed, so you are free to do whatever you wish with them. Here is the link to the album:

It was great to see everyone again. I'm glad the next one is only 5 years away!

Hey all, just wanted to make you aware of something. I don't know if you remember Charity's sister that went to Battle, Angel Kuzio, well she passed away from colon cancer on Dec 2nd, 2008. I wish I was closer so I could go to the funeral, she and their family was such an inspiration and so fun to be around. Here is the info for the funeral mass, so if you can go and show your sympathies, please let Charity, Martha and the rest of the family know how deeply sad I am for their loss!

The family will receive friends at Weaver Funeral home on Saturday, December 6, beginning at noon until 1:45 pm. A funeral service will follow beginning at 2:00 pm, officiated by Father Timothy E. Keeny of St Anne Catholic Church.

A memorial Mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church at a later date.

Hello, I hope everyone is well. Just wanted to give a shout out and let everyone know. Tracey and Gregg had a beautiful baby girl. Her name is Lily Renee Mercier, she was born on November 10,2008. Sorry that it has taken me almost three months to post. It's better late than never. Thought some of her gal pal's would like to know. Tracey has told me that she is the best baby , happy , cries very little , and sleeps through the night. Also my little sister Becky had a girl in Feb 10 2008. So they are plenty of babies around here. It's a baby epidemic her. Every time my wife holds one, she wants one. Then I remind her of the two that we have. That puts the end to wanting more kids. All jokes aside, drop Tracey a line. I'm sure she would love to hear from you. See ya! Willie

I just wanted to let you all know about what I was told by a relative this morning, Jody Gobble passed away this morning. Apparently he was working with the line/power company and he was electrocuted while working, and he did not make it. I might have some more info later but wanted to let you all know!

Was told it should be tomorrows paper, with more info for the funeral.

Kelly, I have submitted it to In Memory on the class site already, just wanted to let you know.

Update:

Here is the article I found this morning!

By Amy Hunter
Reporter / Bristol Herald Courier
Published: March 15, 2009

An employee at Line Power Manufacturing Corp. died Saturday in an accident that occurred while he was working on a piece of electrical equipment.

Joel W. Gobble, 38, of Bluff City, Tenn., was pronounced dead at Bristol Regional Medical Center at 11 a.m., about three hours after the incident, said Randy Grimes, director of safety with Electro-Mechanical Corp., which owns Line Power.

“We don’t know exactly what happened,” Grimes said Saturday. “The incident is under investigation by both us and the Virginia Department of Occupational Safety and Health. We can confirm that he was testing a piece of electrical equipment.”

Bristol Virginia Police dispatchers received a call about the accident at 8 a.m. Saturday, and the Bristol Lifesaving Crew was sent to the scene. Gobble was then transported to the medical center emergency room.

Grimes said Gobble was hired as an electrical tester at Line Power on Jan. 12 and had specialized training in the field.

Line Power manufactures power-generation equipment for mining and industry, Grimes said. Gobble was on site Saturday morning with a small shift of about 20 employees testing a product that was set to be shipped out soon and needed additional work, Grimes said.

Grimes could not comment on whether electricity was involved in Gobble’s death or whether there were eyewitnesses to the incident, he said. Additionally, he could not comment on what the investigation was looking into or if an autopsy would be performed.

“This type of accident has never occurred in the 30 some years that Line Power has been in operation,” Grimes said. “The Line Power family is certainly upset, and our hearts and minds are with the family.”

Jody was involved in a accident at work. His life was cut short on Saturday March 14. He was a great friend that I will miss terribly. He leaves behind his wife Gequetta and two daughters Hannah and Autumn. Please pray for his family for they have a burden to overcome that is to great for me to explain. If I could sum up Jody in just a few words it would be to say he surely was a good Christian man. Truly everyone who knew him was his friend. His memorial service will be Wednesday March 18 at Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol, TN. You should be able to see his arrangements and post thoughts and prayers on www.weaverfuneralhome.net.

Jody truly was a wonderful friend & my family will miss him greatly. When I think of him what I remember most is that big smile that he always had when he was walking up to you. One of the last conversations I had with him was when he called the house & we were talking and he asked for my advice on how me & my husband were dealing with our teenage daughter having a boyfriend, lol. He said he was dreading the day that his oldest daughter got a boyfriend & wanted to know if it was hard on us & how we were handling it & if were we being strict about it or what. I laughed & told him that when it happened to him that he would be just fine, lol.......he was such a great person.
