Arlo Murphy

Arlo Raymond Murphy

Arlo Raymond Murphy, 41, of Tulsa, OK, passed away December 15, 2012. Arlo was born in Tulsa February 3, 1971, to Patrick Murphy and Deborah Evans Murphy. Arlo’s interest in education and other cultures led him to China as an instructor of English as a second language. He was hoping to return to Asia in 2013, to begin a new career. Arlo’s interests were many and varied. He played the bass guitar, was a skilled photographer, writer, lover of books and friend to others. Seldom does a young man achieve a level of knowledge and wisdom that challenges his peers. Arlo was such a young man. His pursuit of knowledge for the sake of knowledge motivated others to surpass the norm. His humor and wit will be missed in a world that has too few of these commodities. Arlo thrived in active conversation, particularly history - both modern and ancient. His grasp and understanding of these subjects were profound. It remained for those who engaged Arlo in these fields of study to be well versed to maintain conversational balance. Arlo could and would talk with any person about any subject - politics, religion, history and current events. He thoroughly enjoyed an intelligent conversation or debate. Arlo studied Economics at OSU in Stillwater. He walked with the graduation class and went through commencement, lacking only a public speaking class to complete his degree. Survivors include parents, Jerry Weems and Deborah Evans Weems of Tulsa, grandmother, Margie Whitt of Tulsa, sister Amy Heape and her husband William of Mannford, OK, sister Kirsten Taylor of Tracy, CA, brother Donovan Weems of Stillwater, OK and seven nieces and nephews. Arlo was much loved and will be missed. Service 10 AM, Wednesday, December 19, 2012, Faith United Methodist Church. Interment: 3PM, Wednesday, December 19, 2012, Maxey Cemetery, Wister, OK.

Arlow Murphy was to me a sweet person who helped me as a young teenager moving from the only place I had known into a life in a new city, a new school, and new challenges.  R.I.P.

Arlo was one of my best friends, expecially in the past few years.  He was on schedule to visit me in upstate New York this Fruary (2003).  He spent several years in Ithaca, only a few miles away.  We talked all the time on the computer and via phone, I still talk to him now.  He made me LAUGH so much, I am forever indebted to him.  He was a scholar, an intellectual, a gorgeous man, a visionary and a terrific friend.  He was also sometimes misunderstood.  Arlo never apologized for being Arlo.  He was exactly who he was.  I was fortunate enough to see the gracious side of him, time and again.
I miss him so much, he added an extra dimension to my life.  I truly loved Arlo Murphy, and I will NEVER forget him as long as I live.
He was a lot of things to a lot of people, but to me he was an integral part of my life.
I hope he has found peace.
I LOVE YOU ARLO.......
