Jimmy Self

James Donald Self
01/09/1971 – 07/25/2020
James Donald Self, 49, passed away Saturday, July 25th, 2020 at home in Broken Arrow, OK. “Jimmy” was born in Las Vegas, NV on January 9th, 1971 to Allen G. Self and Linda M. Self. He lived in Las Vegas, NV, Chula Vista, CA, then Broken Arrow, OK where he graduated high school, went to college, and continued to live.
Jimmy was a typical boy, loving his Legos, bicycle, sports, and outdoors. He felt he was invincible, even having his mother make him a Captain Marvel Cape so he could leap from the playground slide and “fly”. He began playing soccer early in life and loved the game that suited his competitive nature and spirit, continuing throughout high school. He met a multitude of amazing friends while in school, keeping in touch with many. Shortly after high school, he joined the Air Force and served in both the National Guard and Reserves.
A natural born people person, Jimmy began working in the overhead door industry and quickly rose to a highly respected estimator and salesman. He grew his skills by constantly learning everything he could in the trade, then was proud to partner with his wife opening their own successful commercial door and dock equipment company. Jimmy met many good friends and business partners throughout the years and thought the world of each one.
Jimmy loved to golf and would take the opportunity to play any time he could, and with his golfing buddies on Saturday. He loved to travel with his wife, finding new places and experiences (and of course a round of golf together included). Jimmy also shared a love of OU football games and tailgating with some wonderful people each season.
A loving family man, Jimmy cherished every member of his family and would do anything to love and protect them. He was an amazing son, father, husband, brother, and friend. To Jimmy, good friends were family. He often commented on how many good people he’s had in his life and how fortunate he was. He was extremely caring, giving, and wanted every person he met to feel good. If he could leave someone feeling a little better than they did before, it made him happy.
Jimmy is survived by his parents Allen and Linda Self of Broken Arrow, his wife Brenda of Broken Arrow, his children Trystan Self and wife Jessica of Colorado Springs, Meagan Weaver of Broken Arrow, Ethan Weaver of Broken Arrow, his sisters Kelley Haynie and husband Derek of Broken Arrow, Sarah Self and partner Sean of California, along with several nieces and nephews.
