Hello everyone,
I have been in touch with a fellow class mate that you all saw at the 25 reunion Kim Campbell Lynch. Kim has been in the hospital for the past 5 months and it not doing will. Kim has Alpha 1.
Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency (Alpha-1) is a genetic (inherited) condition – it is passed from parents to their children through their genes. Alpha-1 may result in serious lung disease in adults and/or liver disease at any age.
For each trait a person inherits, there are usually two genes; one gene comes from each parent. People with Alpha-1 have received two abnormal alpha-1 antitrypsin genes. One of these abnormal genes came from their mother and one from their father.
Kim is on a breathing machine and will be for a long time. Last night while talking to her on the dry erase board she can use to talk with, she was telling me how she was so glad she made it to the 25 reunion. She was so happy to see everyone. Alpha 1 has already took her moms life and her fathers.
Kim is not in the best of health but she is fighting the down hill fight and she said she will never stop fighting. Because of her medical problems Kim is not able to get a transplant. After spending a few hours with her my heart breaks.
What I thought would be nice as she has some cards on the walls in her hospital room was if everyone could take the time out and send her a card so she knows we are all thinking of her, she would love that. Her address is ( husband will being the cards to her)
