Don Gerrior

Obituary

Don Leet Gerrior, age 60, of Mount Vernon, Washington passed away on Sunday, February 28, 2021 after a couragious 10 month battle of complications from a brain aneurysm. Don was born in Los Angeles, California, on March 19, 1960. He moved with his family in 1977 to Burlington. He graduated from BEHS in 1978. Don's work ethic was impeccable, even at the young age of 17 when he went to work for Vanderman's Furniture. Later, he got a job at Hansen's Furniture as a delivery driver. He quickly moved up to a sales position, and eventually the owner, where he remained for the last 40 years. Friends and customers alike, looking for Don at the store, routinely asked: “Where’s the big guy?”
Don married his one true love, Lucinda "Cindy" Nungesser on December 13, 1980. They shared their home in Mount Vernon with Don's other love, their boxers, Rosie and Benson.
In his younger days, Don played semi-pro football with the Skagit Valley Raiders. He was an avid swimmer, known as the Mayor, at the YMCA. He was passionate about fishing and was a serious collector of Ford Mustangs, muscle cars, and loved anything Carroll Shelbey. He supported many local charities, including youth sports and auctions. Don enjoyed his return trips to California, never missing the opportunity to visit Huntington Beach, and of course, In-N-Out Burger.
Don is survived by his wife, Cindy; brothers, Scott (Chelsea) Jewell, and Tom Jewell; sisters, Lois Jewell, Rhonda (Robert) Sperry, and Gina Black; father-in-law, Keith Nungesser; brothers-in-law, Ben (Kathy) Nungesser, and Randy (Kevin) Nungesser; and sisters-in-law, Penny Miller, and Jamie Ferguson. Don had many cousins and numerous nieces and nephews that will fondly remember their prank playing, teasing uncle that ate potato chips and candy with a fork.
He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Phyllis, Mother-in-law, Rena, grandparents, and nephew, Jacob.
Don was renowned for not holding back and telling it like it is. He will be missed by so many, especially his family and dogs.
