NUESSEN, DALE RUSSELL

April 17, 1960 - January 6, 2021 Dale Nuessen, 60, a life long Burlington resident passed away on January 6th, 2021 in Mt. Vernon, WA. Dale was born in Burlington, WA on April 17th, 1960. He was the 7th of 8 children born to Gilbert and Lavone Nuessen. He graduated from Burlington-Edison High School class of 1978 where he excelled as an athlete in both track and football. Dale is often remembered for being a key member of the 1977 Kingbowl AA State Champs. He was 1st Team All NW football runningback and noseguard and Skagit Valley Heralds offensive footaball player of the year. After high school he earned a scholarship to Idaho State University and played runningback for the Bengals for one season. After 1 year in college Dale enrolled in the Navy and got to travel the world. Dale met Karen Kutzer in the summer of 1985 and the two married on March 29th, 1986. They were married for 22 years and blessed with 2 children, Amanda and Ryan. Dale loved his children and instilled in them the value of hard work and a great sense of humor. He recently became a grandfather to Olive Coulter on October 8th, 2020. Dale has worked at Skagit River Steel and Recycling since 2004 and also teamed up with his son, Ryan, to paint numerous houses over the years on his free time. Dale's hobbies were fishing, watching football and he loved all the times of playing cribbage with his son and family friends Jon and Troy Skogmo. He is survived by his children, Amanda (Ryan) Coulter, Ryan (girlfriend, Shayna) Nuessen and granddaughter Olive Coulter. Sisters Linda Lowe and Joyce (Ron) Curry, brothers Gary Nuessen, Dan Nuessen and Rick (Kelly) Nuessen and brother-in-law Ron Robertson and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Lavone Nuessen, 2 sisters Karen Robertson and Janice Gooch, brother-in-law Mike Lowe and his father-in-law Bob Kutzer. Dale was loved by many who met him and will be missed. A celebration of life is planned for a later date.
