  Charlie Rock

Charles A. "Charlie" Rock, 70, of Butler passed away peacefully on Thursday at VNA Inpatient Hospice in Butler.


Born Dec. 8, 1947, in Butler, he was the son of the late Andrew Rock and Katherine Duke Rock.  Charlie was a graduate of Butler High School, where he was an outstanding gymnast.
He served proudly in the U.S. Army in Vietnam, where he became disabled. 

Charlie was a member of American Legion Post 778 in Lyndora, Joseph T. Black Post 249 of the VFWElks Lodge 170 in Butler and the Loyal Order of the Moose 64 in Butler. 
He retired in 2001 from the Melt Shop at Butler ARMCO. 

Charlie was a member of St. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church. 

He was a champion of veterans and veteran organizations including the VA Butler Healthcare, Healing Waters, Storm Harbor Equestrian Center at Slippery Rock University to name a few of the veteran organizations for which he volunteered. 

He was a great husband, father and grandfather. He loved taking the grandchildren to ride the horses at Storm Harbor. 

Charlie loved the beach, and he and his wife Patti were living the dream by staying in Sarasota, Fla., six months of the year. He will be dearly missed and fondly remembered.
Charlie leaves behind to cherish his memory, his wife, Patricia Collins Rock, whom he married Sept. 7, 1968; his children, Susie Grant and her husband, Brian, Dan Rock and his wife, Gloria, David Rock and his wife, Michelle, all of Butler; his grandchildren, Avery and Hunter Grant, Chelsey, Alexis and Olivia Rock, Anthony Bertoluzzi, and Aubrey and Andrew Rock; his three brothers, Eugene and his wife, Pat, Paul and his wife, Paulette, and Jim, all of Butler; and several nieces and nephews.

ROCK - Friends of Charles A. "Charlie" Rock, who died Thursday, April 12, 2018, will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Boylan Funeral Home & Cremation Services of Connoquenessing, 856 Evans City Road, Renfrew. 
A funeral to celebrate Charlie's life will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with Father Paisius McGrath officiating.
Charlie will be laid to rest with full military honors at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies.
