Elizabeth Jane Schaffner, 53, of Butler died Sunday at the Good Samaritan Hospice at Concordia.
She was born Feb. 8, 1956, in Butler; and she was the daughter of the late Shirl W. and Elizabeth Vaughan McGarvey.
Elizabeth was a 1974 graduate of Butler High School and earned her bachelor's degree in communications from Robert Morris University in 1979.
She worked as an administrative assistant for the Morgan Management Co., Newhaven Court and Concordia Lutheran Ministries. She also performed tireless work at her family's business, Schaffner Printing Co.
A member of Hill United Presbyterian Church of Butler; Jane was a volunteer and formerly a member of the board of directors for the following organizations: the Butler Junior Women's Club; the Butler County Symphony Association, where she was also the past treasurer; the Butler County Historical Society; and the Butler Soccer Association.
She greatly enjoyed her Sheltie dogs and spending time with her family.
Her husband, James V. Schaffner, who she married Sept. 20, 1980, survives her. Also surviving are her children, Kristin E. Schaffner of Pittsburgh and Brian J. Schaffner of Butler; and her brother and his wife, V. Brent and Julia McGarvey of Concord, Ohio.
A brother, S. Bruce McGarvey, preceded her in death.
SCHAFFNER There will be no visitation. A memorial service for Elizabeth Jane Schaffner, who died Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, will take place later. Cremation services provided by Geibel Funeral Home, 201 E. Cunningham St. in Butler.

Memorial donations may be made to the Good Samaritan Hospice Inpatient Unit, 134 Marwood Road, Cabot, PA 16023; or to Hill United Presbyterian Church, 501 Second St., Butler, PA 16001.
