Ken was a graduate of Butler Area High School. He served in the US Navy during the Vietnam war. Before retiring, Ken worked as an installer for Embarq Telephone Co. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, of the VFW Post #249, Butler, of the American Legion Post #117, where he previously served as Commander, and of the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Valley of New Castle. Ken loved his family and was especially proud of his five grandchildren, Austin, Trey, Jacob, Sydney, and Brody.

He is survived by his wife, Linnette Williamson Barto, whom he married on May 4, 1968; two sons, Jeffrey Barto and his wife Sherry, and Marc Barto and his wife Laurie; five grandchildren, Austin, Trey, Jacob, Sydney, and Brody Barto; three brothers, Richard Barto and his wife Denise of Charleston, SC, Donald Barto and his wife Kathy of Butler, PA, and Daniel Barto and his wife Lisa of Butler, PA; one sister, Nancy Jo Gilson and her husband Scott of Slippery Rock, PA; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brother, Billie Barto; two nieces, Melissa Barto, and Stacy Abraham; and an infant nephew, Shea Barto.
