Karen was beautiful inside and out. She was so soft-spoken and kind.  She always had a smile. It is difficult to watch our friends pass on.

Mr. Vavro, a teacher at Lyndora School, took it upon himself to organize Friday-night dances in the school gymnasium for the seventh and eighth graders. Most everyone attended, all dressed up in our collared shirts and pretty dresses. I, and a lot of other guys, attended these dances as part of the stag line. Karen was always there too, hanging out with her group of girl friends. For a kid like me, shy and lacking in social skills, Karen was special. If you asked Karen to dance, she would dance with you. I never saw her turn anyone down. No matter how geeky or nerdy you were, Karen would dance with you. More than half a century later, I still think of Karen a lot. My only regret is that I did not post this years ago before Karen passed away. I would have wanted her to know that at least one guy who she probably didn’t remember, remembers her fondly because he got to dance with one of the nicest and prettiest girls in the room. We miss you, Karen.

(I may have the teacher's name wrong. Memories fade.)
