Jack L. "Cicco"

Alex Pawluk, 66, reposed in the Lord Friday, June 15, 2012, in Bowie, Md. He was formerly of Butler.
He was born in Nuremburg, Germany, Aug. 24, 1945, at the very end of World War II. In 1952, he sailed on the Queen Mary and entered the United States through Ellis Island.
He settled in Lyndora and attended the Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which helped the family assimilate into American culture while maintaining their national heritage. He graduated from Butler High School in 1964, the same year he became a naturalized U.S. citizen.
He graduated from DeVry Technical Institute in Chicago and then landed employment with Westinghouse as an electronics technician. Alex retired in 2002 from Northrop Grumman, formerly Westinghouse, and remained a resident of Bowie, Md. He made it known that he always rooted for the Pittsburgh sports teams, especially the Steelers.
Alex was a free spirit who had a passion for many things including his Ukrainian heritage, weight lifting, sports, hunting, fishing, early rock and roll music of the 1950s and 1960s, cars of that era and motorcycles.
He thought it was special that the official date of Ukraine's independence in 1991 fell on his birthday. When “Capt. Al” owned and operated his part-time crab business, he fittingly named his boat Cossack, further exemplifying his free spirit, albeit Ukranian style.
He also loved America, Old Glory and anything depicting the red, white and blue. He often incorporated this into his outfits. He typically sported a muscle shirt with flashy printed pants, sometimes patriotic and other times with flames or a tiger print. His signature conversation piece was his pony tail, which had a life of its own. He spent many of his early retirement years traveling across the United States on one his Harley's, establishing friendships along the way. The Sturgis Rally was an annual highlight for many years.
Sadly missed, Alex is survived by one sister, Alesia (Dennis) Amos and their three children, Jason, Jeffery and Kimberly; and three brothers, Victor (Yuliya) and their son, Pavlog, Peter (Su Young) and George (Rose) and their five children, Elaine, Gregory, Roselyn, Katherine and Georgia.
Alex was preceded in death by his parents, Gregory and Pauline, as well as one uncle, Alex.
