Alice Schmid (Miller)

Alice L. Schmid-Miller passed away Saturday at the home of her daughter, Lisa, in Jamestown, N.Y.
Alice was born Oct. 19, 1946, in Cleveland, Ohio. She was the daughter of the late Grant Schmid Jr., and the late Elizabeth "Betty" Nadasdi Schmid.
Alice graduated from Slippery Rock University with a degree in elementary education in May of 1970. She started her work career as a school teacher at Harvard Elementary in the Cleveland School District, where she worked for eight years. She also substituted later in the Butler School District.
Alice was an active, very dedicated member of the Christian Science Church, wherever she lived, including the last 38 years at the First Church of Christ, Scientist in Butler. She was a class-taught student. She worked hard in almost every church capacity, including first reader, president of the board, secretary, Sunday school superintendent and teacher, assistant committee on publication, lecture committee and reading room librarian. Alice also studied, graduated and served as a Christian Science nurse for over two years at the Glenmont nursing facility in Columbus, Ohio.
Alice was active as a member of the Butler County Democratic Committee and served as a councilwoman on the Connoquenessing Borough Council for one term. She volunteered as a driver for Meals on Wheels.
Mrs. Schmid-Miller is survived by her husband, Steve Miller; and four children, Jamie Miller, Lisa (Mick) Schmid-Miller, David (Michelle) Miller and Jon (Claria) Miller; one grandson, Teddy; one sister, Elizabeth Bieck; and one brother, Grant Schmid III.
Alice's loving presence will be joyfully remembered by all who knew her.
