In Memory

Alan Downs

Good morning everyone,

I can't believe this, but we have lost another classmate, Alan Downs. Some of us just saw him last Thursday and he looked like a picture of health. He passed away on Sunday in his sleep. He leaves behind his wife Brenda, two children and three grandchildren. and many friends.Alan was a soft spoken man with a great smile. If I find out more details I will pass them along..

Al was a great friend and classmate as you all know.  Funny, smiling, very devout Christian with a mind geared to "discuss" rather than argue almost anything.  Soft spoken and when he spoke it was always something worth hearing, no matter how many times you had to ask him to speak up.  Loving husband of 47 years, loving father of 2, a successful boy and girl with 3 grandkids.  Plagued recently with some blood clots in lungs and developement of atrial fibrillation but still funny and full of wit.  He had many memory filled fun trips over the years with many of his classmates with your typical youthful experiences involving some debateable "indulgences" but always good intentioned clean fun.  While leading Mike Kennedy and I on a Christian pilgrimage trip last weekend to The Ark and The Creation Museum in KY where he had been several times before, he passed away peacefully at night after a full first day at The Ark.  Will miss "The Cahokia Flash" as he was known by his U of I dorm flag football teammates the next time wanting to do lunch or "discuss" not argue some topic of interest.

Charlie  or "Chas" as Al called me.

Sending prayers for comfort, strength, and peace to Alan's dear wife Brenda, their adult children, Grandchildren, family and friends. I was very moved reading the comments of a well-lived life and how Alan was blessed to revisit a favorite place with his classmates from childhood days, just prior to his passing. God Bless each one. May the Lord keep Alan in His perfect care each day and also, keep his friends and family as well, until all meet, again. Amen
