David Carpenter

David was one of my best friends in school.  He passed away this past February, of cancer.  I spent many hours each week hanging out in the AV room of the library with Dave, Steve Wright, Mark Sandy, Paty Yarger, and many others, shooting the breeze, playing practical jokes, playing with the equipment, and occaisionally pretending to deliver AV equipment.  He managed to get me involved in UN club, and he, Steve Wright and I had regular Sunday excursions to Roseland Bowl, to practice committing mayhem upon helpless bowling pins.

Dave was always fascinated with radio, and was basically self-taught when it came down to how radios worked and were put together, which I found amazing.  He attended Ithaca College after high school, and if I recall correctly continued to work in radio after that.  We fell out of touch after that, except for occaisional contacts.  I saw him last at our second 10th year reunion, and was hoping I'd see him at this one, only to find him listed 'in memoriam.'

If it's true that we all feel kind of isolated in high school, Dave felt to me like a bit of a kindred spirit in the 'nerds r us' category, and I valued and remember so fondly his weirdness, his humor, and his loyal friendship.  Wish you were here, Dave.
