Kym Nye (Phillips) VIEW PROFILE

Kim Nye Phillips, 34, of 108 Johnson Street in Canton died unexpectedly from a cranial aneurysm at her residence on October 14th, 1996.  Kim left Pisgah in 1979 and moved to Raleigh where she graduated from Millbrook High School. She was the daughter of Kenneth Nye and Linda Moore Nye. Her two brothers, Keith and Mark, both live in Raleigh, as does her father.

Prior to her death, she was employed for 13 years by Cataloochee Ranch where she was the much-loved caregiver and companion to Miss Judy, who with her husband Tom were the original owners and developers of the ranch.  After her cremation, her ashes were scattered in a special place at Cataloochee.

Kim had a unique personality with a ready laugh.  Her fun-loving nature and witty comments were very entertaining.

Born prematurely, she lived most of her first year in a neo-natal unit in a hospital in Albemarle.  Her survival was akin to a miracle, a testiment to the care of doctors and nurses in a time of newly-emerging advances in the care of premature infants.

A perusal of her baby book reveals that her first friend was Alison Rae Burnette (Frazier). Interestingly, her mother and Alison's mother had grown up in side-by-side houses.  Her first word was "Dada."

Her mother, Linda, still resides at the homeplace in Canton.

Kim was my best friend all through high school and i will never forget all the laughs and mischief we had. Her death was a blow i will never forget!Kim and i would go to Raliegh to spend time with her father and would always have a blast!I remember listining to Little Feet,Steely Dan and most of all James Taylor who sang our favorite song "Youve got a Friend" best song ever made!!!!! and as i type this i can hardly see the screen because of my eyes tearing up.Kim and i stuck with each other through thick and thin, lies and truths.I know some wonder why i didnt come to the memorial! It was just to hard to say good-by to the one true friend i knew.I miss kim and will always consider her as my best friend and closest thing i had to a sister in N.C.Even though we grew apart as time past i would alway think of her and certain things would trigger a memory.I know kim is a part of all of us now and is watching over us and is probably getting a good laugh at me being a mom!!!!!!Linda her mom was and still is the one person who would always say "you girls are going to get in trouble one day" boy was she right! But ya know what we turned out to be pretty great girles and i know you are proud of kim.

kym was my friend since sixth grade.  She  and I shared so much history  Her passing was life changing for me  It was the same as if I lost one of my sisters.  Planning her funeral was the hardest thing I ever had done but also one of the most special times .   I think of her often and I have to smile.  I miss her often and it still hurts .  She was  more than just a friend, she was my family.   I know she will not be with us in body but I can assure you she will be there in spirit.    The main thing Kym taught me, live life to the fullest and never miss a chance to laugh!     As always...
