Tom always had a smile on his face!  Man, could he make me laugh; even during grueling double sessions.

I knew Thomas Gaskin well. I knew him from around the neighborhood.  He was the reason I quit

football.  I was trying out  to be a reciever on the last cut to make the team. I went out on a pass pattern and

he was covering me, I went up and caught the pass, he hit me low while in the air. I somersaulted came down on my shoulder pads & helmet. I blacked out for a few seconds but I held onto the ball.  I got up, brushed myself off and headed straight to the locker rooms.  I quit without knowing if I made the cut but it made no difference because I didn't want anybody to hit me that hard again. Will miss him, always had a big smile.

Evidently, Bishop Tom Gaskin attended Central.  So I assumed that we met at Edison, but he went to Franklin.  He must have impressed me a great deal if the only time I saw him was 7-8 grade basketball, when Arberry Barnes & he would slaughter St. Matt’s.  Will have to ask Lee Smith & John Kelly.  Until I saw his picture in the obit, I could not place him.  After seeing his picture -- lots of affection & fun.  His is a Good Memory to have.

I attended school with Thomas from Gregory to Franklin Junior High and  to Central. Thomas was a good childhood friend and a good man  with a great smile.
