IT WAS A SMASHING SUCCESS!

We Came, We Saw, We Aspired to Better Things!

Many thanks to those who answered the call to A First-Ever Reunion of the Descendants of Andrew Moffett and Anna Reid Moffett! There is already talk of another!

We have set up a Flickr Album as a Clearinghouse for Photographs of the Reunion. Click HERE  to go the Flickr Album where you can upload your photos, and download photos taken by your cousins. Those photos include:

The Old Citadel

Charleston, South Carolina, October 21 - 24, 2016

Many thanks to William F. Trimble, Professor of History of Auburn University

The author of Admiral William A. Moffett, Architect of Naval Aviation, published by the Smithsonian Institution Press, Professor Trimble delivered a Keynote Adress about perhaps the most famous descendant of Andrew and Anna, RAD William Adger Moffett.

As reflected in the matrix above (which is a work in progress - click HERE for a full-size view of the matrix), Andrew and Anna had 9 children, one of whom (Elizabeth Reid Moffett) died in infancy. Of the eight others, at least 4 had children: Margaret Hall (who married an Adger), John Reid, George Hall, and Alexander Moffett.

Dougie Maclean and guests singing of Caledonia.

Caledonia

Music and Lyrics by Dougie MacLean

I don't know if you can see the changes that have come over me
In these last few days I've been afraid that I might drift away
So I've been telling old stories, singing songs, that make me think about where I come from
That's the reason why I seem so far away today

CHORUS
Let me tell you that I love you and I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me and now I'm going home
But if I should become a stranger you know that it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had

I have moved and I've kept on moving, proved the points that I needed proving
Lost the friends that I needed losing, found others on the way
I have tried and I've kept on trying, stolen dreams, yes there's no denying*
I have traveled hard sometimes with conscience flying somewhere in the wind

CHORUS

Now I'm sitting here before the fire, the empty room the forest choir
The flames that couldn't get any higher they've withered now they've gone
But I'm steady thinking, my way is clear and I know what I will do tomorrow
When the hands have shaken and the kisses flow then I will disappear

CHORUS

Let me tell you that I love you and I think about you all the time
Caledonia you're calling me and now I'm going home
But if I should become a stranger you know that it would make me more than sad
Caledonia's been everything I've ever had

Soon I will post a group photo and other photographs of the Reunion (I am, ahem, waiting for someone to send me such a photo).

In the meantime, some articles about various family members can be accessed by clicking HERE.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

Many thanks to our cousin Margaret Moore Booker, who did some great legwork to set up four new events for the Reunion Weekend: 1) a presentation at the South Carolina Historical Society about Moffett family documents on Friday afternoon; 2) a horse-drawn carriage tour of Old Charleston on Saturday morning; 3) consent for our Candlelight Vigil in the graveyard at Second Presbyterian after dinner on Saturday night; and 4) a tour of Second Presbyterian on Sunday morning. And Margaret indicated that she may have some leads on a nautical tour of Charleston Harbor to boot.

Details (such as when and where) for all of these four exciting events are now live on our site, where you can sign up and, in some cases, buy tickets (used to defray out of pocket costs or fund contributions promised to the Historical Society and Second Presbyterian Church).

Spero Meliora!

-Cousin Kent (Maynard)
