D. Denny Allen

The "Don" could throw a baseball so fast, I could not even see it. And I was right next to him, playing third base at Bain Jr High. Larry Baucom played short stop, and Jerry Kennedy played catcher. All are members of this '61 class. But the "Don" was the man during baseball season. At home games, Don's reputation drew large crowds, they wanted to see him pitch. But Don was a super hitter too, not many pitchers could hit very well. The Don could always surprise the other team with his ability to knock one out of there.

He was so methodical, almost would put you to sleep, then here come's that fast ball. Behind home plate, Jerry Kennedy would always jump up, rubbing his hand, yelling at Don, "Man, that hurts"! He went on to play in advanced baseball leagues. too. We all miss Don Tweed. His funeral was so crowded; I was not able to attend, but so many of our classmates were touched. Don's genuine and layed back personality was so special. and he  had the reputation of being the  perfect gentleman. His sister Shirley, and my sister Donna, were in the 1960 EastMeck class. Shirley had worked at my Dad's company during high school, so we all hung out some.
