I'm very sorry to hear of Ralph's passing. He was a calm, pleasant person. And so good in Mr. Parker's math classes--no wonder he succeeded in science! I wish he had been at the last reunion. Best wishes to his bereaved family. Susan Appleton Ferris
Ralph and his wife Marianne introduced me to his NCSU classmate, David Miller, to whom I was happily married for 45 years. There will always be a special spot in my heart for Ralph. May Ralph and David rest in peace.
It seems that I've written an awful lot of "In Memory" notes recently, all difficult to compose, all for friends of long standing-- Eddie Silber, Tommy Freeman, Paul Leggett, and others. Ralph and I were close friends from the sixth grade through graduate school.
I hadn't seen him lately but we've exchanged birthday greetings--- cards, calls, e-mails-- each year for many years. I could tell many humorous stories about our doings but there won't be any more. I'll never forget the morning he told me of the sad end of his blue Studebaker... only Ralph could tell such a story that way.
Ralph kept me apprised of his health troubles through 2017...I could tell in February 2017 that he was in trouble but this last episode caught me by surprise. I'll miss Ralph... and will think of him every time I see the Queen of Spades in a deck of cards!
Ralph and I sat beside each other at our last reunion! He will always be remembered as a true gentle person! We remarked that we were the last remaining "Ralphs" in the class!
As fellow NCSU alums, we joked about some of our favorite (?) classes, such as "Thermodynamics"! Definitely not a pleasant experience at the time!
Being a new Grandfather again, I know the value of relationships, old and new! People such as Ralph McGill will be sorely missed! Rest in peace, Brother!
