David loved his Myers Park friends. He focused on seeking ways to evolve spiritually during college and the years thereafter. He earned a Master's Degree in Spanish from Appalachian State University and a doctorate in English Education from the University of Georgia. David also became a teacher of Transcendental Meditation. David inspired many students, teaching English at UNCC and Central Piedmont. At the time of his death, David was survived by his wife, Kathy Garmon Hasty (now Auger), and two children, Matt Hasty and Kathryn Hasty. As of 2014, Matt is a section chief with the Dept of Defense Intelligence Agency serving in Germany. He has a wife, Jenn, one step daughter (Evan), and they are expecting. Kathryn is engaged to Dave Rabinowitz. She will complete a Masters in Speech and Language Pathology at BU in May 2014.
