William (“Bill”) Horne, Sr. passed away peacefully with family by his side on March 30, 2021 at age 69, after a brief but aggressive illness. Born in Charlotte, NC, Bill was the first son of William and Gloria Horne. He attended Charlotte Country Day School and later graduated from Myers Park High School in 1970. His education continued at UNC Chapel Hill, and he later earned his Bachelor’s degree from UNC Charlotte. Bill was a member and served as a young acolyte at Christ Episcopal Church in Charlotte. More recently, he also served as an active member and usher at Forest Hill Church in Charlotte.

In addition to a deep devotion to his Christian faith, Bill was passionate about his numerous hobbies and interests, not the least of which included aviation, boating, and playing music. He was an avid guitar player, an outstanding water skier, and a virtual encyclopedia of historical aviation knowledge. His natural gifts in physics and engineering also led to deep interests in solar energy, infrared heating, and steam engine technology. Most recently, his lifelong passion for aviation culminated in his volunteer work for Carolinas Aviation Museum. He is preceded in death by his parents. Bill is survived by his wife of 26 years, Betty; his two brothers, Gordon and David; his son, William (“Buck”) Horne, Jr.; and his beloved granddaughter, Gloria Grace.

For all who wish to attend, the memorial service for Bill Horne will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 11:30 am at Christ Episcopal Church.
