Obituary for Randy Long

Steven Randolph “Randy” Long began the process of his eternal life with his beloved Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on 04/27/2023 after a battle with cancer. Randy was born on August 28, 1951, in Honolulu, Hawaii to Carolyn Barksdale Long. He attended Charlotte-Mecklenburg schools, graduating from Myers’ Park High School in 1970.

Randy is preceded in death by his mother and older brother John A. Long. He is survived by his wife, confidant, best friend, and sufficiency Cindy of the home, who has been, not just “with” him, but has been in him for the duration of his illness. He is also survived by his brother, Ken Long (Karen) of Columbia, SC; brother, Richard Long (Nancy) of Florida, in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and his brothers in music Jeff Runkle and Tom Young (Pat) of Atlanta, GA. It would be remiss not to recognize the love, dedication and support given to Randy and Cindy throughout this illness by our loving family Tracy Van Skiver, Tara and Keith Wrigglesworth and children Carley and Ethan.

Randy’s’ family wishes to thank all of the wonderful friends and neighbors who have shown us their love and support throughout these challenging times. Their love and friendship made our situation more bearable. The family also wishes to thank all of the dedicated professionals who contributed to the care and wellbeing of Randy and his family. It was both humbling and much appreciated.

In lieu of flowers or house plants, Randy’s family asks that any donations be made to Saint Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in his name in the prayer that one day their research can prevent a child from suffering through the insidiousness and pain that this cruel disease can inflict.

The family will receive visitors between 6 and 8 pm at the home on Saturday April 29th, 2023, at 12776 Spirit Bound Way located in the Steele Creek area. The family wishes to thank Wolfe Funeral Home for their kind and compassionate assistance during this time of mourning.
