David Ross Wood - Class Of 1974

                                                                                                                                                              

David R. Wood David passed away on Monday, July 1, 2013, at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

He was born on March 6, 1956, to Grover Wayne Wood Jr. and Jeanne Tomlin.

Survivors include Jeanne Tomlin, mother, of Crozet, Virginia; Geoffrey Vaughan, son, of Glen Allen, Virginia; sisters, Mary W. DeBerry of Athens, Georgia, Patricia W. Marshall and husband, Wayne, of Barboursville, Virginia, and Anne Wood of North Carolina; brothers Douglas C. Wood and Martha of Waynesboro, Virginia, Sgt. Michael K. Tomlin of St. Paul, Minnesota, and Jeffrey Wood of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

David was a cook and his last place of employment was the Elks Lodge in Charlottesville, Virginia. David proudly served in the 82nd Airborne. David loved camping, hiking and the outdoors. He was an avid reader of history especially American History. His heroes were General Lee and General Grant.

As a child he always wanted adventures. He traveled and worked in several places; his last adventure was Alaska. He always came back to the mountains and his cat, Tristan. He was also a guitarist with a special love for the blues.

His best friends were Ronnie Wood and the late Tim Kavanaugh. They were friends for 40 years.

The family would like to thank the Drs. and nurses at UVA Medical Center on 3E and 3W for their kindness to David. There will be no formal services per David's request. His ashes will be scattered at a later date.
