Arthur Giles Henderson - Class Of 1974

Arthur "Art" Giles Henderson departed this life on Sunday, November 22, 2015, at the Carilion Roanoke Memorial Medical Hospital in Roanoke, Va. Arthur was born on June 9, 1954, in Charlottesville, Va., the son of Shirley Henderson and the late James Henderson Sr.

He was married to Deborah Henderson and from that union they were blessed with a daughter, Devon. He was a member of First Baptist Covesville Church, located in Covesville, Va. He was a graduate of Albemarle High School. He attended Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, N.C. and eventually made North Carolina his home. He was a self-employed Landscaper.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving mother, Shirley Henderson of Covesville, Va.; his wife, Deborah Henderson; a daughter, Devon Henderson; three brothers, James Henderson Jr., Harold Henderson and wife, Brenda, and Earl Henderson and wife, Gwen; two sisters, the Reverend Mary Smith and husband, Clarence, and Theresa Howard; a number of nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

A Celebration of His Life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2015, at First Baptist Covesville Church, 5883 Henderson Lane, Covesville, Va., with the Reverend Mary Byers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Robert Dennis Albert (1974)

I haven't seen Art since I left AHS. I still consider him a friend. I remember pulling from my line position in football and joining Art coming out of the backfield, together we cleaned the clocks of any in front of us, opening up the lanes for running backs. Though I havent seen you in a long time, My heart is with you. Take care Art, I will see you soon.

Jimmy Gilbert (1974)

I haven't seen Art since school either but I will always cherish the memories ! That man made me laugh & smile every day . We lost a great friend. My heart goes out to Mommy Shirley and all the family ! Love, Jimmy Gilbert
